Cartographies of Memory

Change and recurrence are the essence of being alive: the past, the impending death, and present awareness. The world around us, largely our own creation, is constantly changing and often baffles us. We approach this world to preserve it or to change it, thereby making our desires visible. The arguments of planning boil down to the management of change.
This project explores the evidence of time, embodied in the physical world, how these external signs fit (or adapt) to our internal experience, and how this inner-outer relationship can become one that enriches life. The analysis encompasses historical preservation, forms of transition, futurism, temporal signs, the aesthetics of time, biological rhythm, the perception of time, disaster, renewal, and revolution.
The project Cartographies of Memory: Urban Transformations in Veracruz and La Capuchina in Bogotá was the winner of the 2025 Story Told Grant from the District Incentive Program of the Secretary of Culture, Recreation and Sports of Bogotá.
